Wow, what can I say? Robot Chicken Star Wars… I have never to this date seen an episode of Robot Chicken or Star Wars, but thankfully this was a 23 minute episode and featured a bunch of characters from Star Wars that I am pretty familiar with.
If you know the show then you can pretty much predict what this is going to be like. It is a parody of Star Wars. A few things happen but mainly it consists of roasting celebrities and cracking jokes. The sets look amazing and the stop motion work looks like the original (I’ve seen pictures of the movies even though I haven’t watched them). You are sure to get some laughs with the subject matter, I mean how the can incorporate George Bush and Bill Clinton into star wars is beyond me, but it’s pretty cool when ol’ W gets up to mischief and thinks he is a Jedi with super powers.
Robot Chicken covers characters from all 6 Star Wars movies and yet has no plot, no story. You can tell it’s made by a bunch of Star Wars geeks and there was probably a whole lot of references in there that I didn’t get it, but it has made me consider watching the series. I hate space crap but I mean what’s with these creatures? Jah Jah and Wookies? Weird…
There’s a bunch of guest vocalists ranging from Conan O’Brien, Joey Fatone, Hulk Hogan, James Van Der Beek, Seth McFarlane and why not Malcolm McDowell. Sometimes I got a little sidetracked and started focusing on who’s voice I was hearing because so many of them seemed familiar and I really had no idea that anyone famous did the voices.
Accompanying this set is also a 3 hour sampler DVD or other Adult Swim titles. It features episodes from shows such as Tom Goes to the Mayor, Robot Chicken, Frisky Dingo, Sealab, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and more. I watched the episode of Robot Chicken, and to me the episode which parodied ‘The Real World’ seemed funnier to me that the whole of Robot Chicken Star Wars.
This DVD set is loaded with extras, in fact the special features run for 145 minutes whilst the feature runs for 23. I suspect that it will be a purchase for the uber Robot Chicken Fans. If you are like me and haven’t seen any of the episodes then I think we will be safer buying the Robot Chicken series on DVD as it did seem more consistently funnier.
