PlumageThe Bird With The Crystal Plumage: DVD and Blu-Ray

In his first film as writer/director, Dario Argento (SUSPIRIA, DEEP RED, TWO EVIL EYES) single-handedly created the giallo genre and instantly emerged as the filmmaker critics worldwide hailed as ‘The Italian Hitchcock’.
Sam, an American writer in Rome, witnesses a murder attempt on the wife of the owner of an art gallery by a sinister man in a raincoat and black leather gloves. The woman survives, and the police say that she is the first surviving victim of a notorious serial killer. But when they fail to make any progress with the case, Sam decides to investigate on his own, turning up several clues that point in the direction of just one possible suspect – assuming that he really knows who he’s looking for…

Screen legend Vincent Price stars in this, the first, and finest, adaptation of Richard Matheson’s classic horror/sci-fi novel I Am Legend. After a plague wipes out the human race, Dr. Robert Morgan (Price) struggles with loneliness – and his sanity as the monotony of the unending days broken only by his daily hunts for vampires! One day on his solitary travels he runs across another human: is she a mirage, or real? This existential masterpiece ratchets up the tension, and keeps it up, until the last thrilling frame.

Black Sunday: DVD and Blu-Ray

The reigning masterpiece of Italian horror cinema, Mario Bava’s Black Sunday remains one of the most stylishly photographed of all horror films, ranking with any other black-and-white film of lasting repute. This was the master cameraman’s official directorial debut, and his striking compositions are the work of a genuine artist in peak form. Loosely adapted from a story by Nikolai Gogol, this chilling vampire tale begins in 17th-century Moldavia, where the evil Princess Asa (Barbara Steele) is executed for witchcraft and vampirism, along with her brother Javutich (Arturo Dominici). Two centuries later, a pair of traveling doctors discover Asa’s crypt and inadvertently revive the evil princess, whose scheme of vampiric revenge is aimed at her own identical descendant Princess Katia, an innocent beauty (also played by Steele) whose lifeblood will ensure Asa’s immortality.

American Horror Story: Freakshow: DVD and Blu-Ray

The year is 1952. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived to town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience.

Poltergeist: DVD and Blu-Ray

VampyrosVampyros Lesbos: Blu-Ray

Master horror filmmaker Jess Franco (Count Dracula) established a formidable reputation in Spanish exploitation cinema throughout the 1960s and 70s.  Arguably one of his most infamous and cult-worthy works, Vampyros Lesbos, is a tripped-out erotic cocktail of nudity, psychedelic soft-core lesbianism and sexy vampire action. Countess Nadine Carody (the stunning Soledad Miranda in one of her final performances) is a sapphic vampiress with an insatiable thirst for female blood. Luring young women to her isolated island… she romances them and then kills in ecstasy! Linda Westing (Ewa Strömberg) falls under the Countess’ seductive spell, only to discover a living nightmare she may never be able to escape. Driven by Franco’s famous retro soundtrack, outrageous sets and blood glistening makeup, this uncut high-definition version captures the pure essence of his unique spin on Bram Stoker’s eternal tale of horror.

Dolls: Blu-Ray

“You’re never too old to play with dolls until you’re dead!” A group of flustered travellers take refuge at a mansion during a night time thunderstorm. What seems like a good idea at the time for young Judy Bower (Carrie Lorraine), her father David (Ian Patrick Williams), stepmother Rosemary (Carolyn Purdy-Gordon) and tag-along Ralph Morris (Stephen Lee) soon becomes a nightmare of unparalleled horror. Generously offered overnight lodgings by the mansion’s mysterious owners Gabriel and Hilary Hartwicke (Guy Rolfe, Hilary Mason), it soon becomes apparent that their innocent visitors are destined to become the playthings of their macabre and murderous toy dolls – to do with as they bloody-well like! A creepy cult favourite from genre champion Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond) and producer Brian Yuzna (Re-Animator), featuring grisly creature effects from the legendary John Carl Buechler (Troll, Ghoulies), Dolls set the spooky standard for pint-sized terror tales that influenced the likes of horror hits Child’s Play and Puppetmaster.
